About the Book

The Klima Experiment

In The Klima Experiment, Dann Hovey delivers a gripping fusion of historical mystery, scientific realism, and international suspense. The story begins with the mysterious death of Nikola Tesla in 1943. His theory about a means of weather modification powerful enough to alter the planet’s climate lays dormant until decades later, a government experiment confirms a method of influencing the jet stream that has the potential to create weather events. It was code-named KLIMA after the Greek word for climate.

At the heart of the investigation is Phillip Tanner, an unsuspecting university researcher.  When he meets Kristen Bennett, the daughter of a U.S. Air Force general killed under suspicious circumstances, the two are drawn into a web of deception involving scientists, government bureaucrats, military officers, and mercenaries. Interest in the experiment eventually reaches from Washington to Moscow.

Relatable Insecurities

At its core, The Klima Experiment is a story about ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances. Beneath the layers of science and politics lie familiar human fears, doubt, loss, ambition, and the struggle to do what’s right in a world where truth can be buried under power. Readers will see parts of themselves in characters who question loyalty, morality, and their own courage.

Vivid 1970s Setting

The novel captures the atmosphere of the 1980s with striking realism, from the political tensions of the Cold War to the greed and decadence of the government. Through richly detailed scenes across New York, Washington, California, and eventually the walls of the Kremlin, the era comes alive, immersing readers in a world on the brink of both discovery and disaster.

Complex Relationships

Every connection in The Klima Experiment carries weight, from the fragile trust between Phillip Tanner and Kristen Bennett to the conflicting loyalties of scientists, bureaucrats, soldiers, and spies. These relationships drive the story forward, revealing how betrayal and ambition shape the choices that define not only individuals but potentially the fate of nations.

Exploration of Identity

Beyond its scientific intrigue, the novel is a profound exploration of identity — who we are when tested by truth, power, and fear. Characters are forced to confront their own moral compass and the consequences of their actions, reminding us that understanding the world begins with how we meet its uncertainties and respond.
